Winsted student graduates from basic training with Air Force

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Joseph A. Pennell graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
Pennell is the son of Mary Ellen Pennell of Danbury Quarter Road, Winsted.
He is a 2003 graduate of The Gilbert School, Winsted. He earned a bachelor's degree in 2010 from Central Connecticut State University, New Britain.

Monarch butterfly program Aug. 11 at Beardsley and Memorial Library

Learn how to raise the most beloved insect in North America, the Monarch butterfly.  Beardsley and Memorial Library, 40 Munro Place, Winsted, on Saturday, Aug. 11, at 11 a.m. has asked Mary-Elin Renzullo, a Monarch butterfly enthusiast, to educate patrons on how the Monarch grows from an egg to a strikingly colorful butterfly. This program is free and open to the public.
